Scrapbooking: Getting Started Can Be As Easy As 1-2-3!

EADY - Scrap booking Ideas. One of the best ways to get a feel for scrap booking is to study ideas others have used. Flip through magazines and books at the library or ask a friend to share their albums.  Decide what type of scrapbook album you want to create, for example Milestone or Memory album. You may want to start out small. A Milestone album captures a specific moment in time and encompasses a specific event, such as a vacation or wedding, while a Memory album may chronicle a year in the life of your family.  Either way, all you need is a few photographs and in no time you will create an album that will be enjoyed for years to come…Magic

2.    SET – Preparing Your Photo’s For Scrap booking.  Now that you have decided what type of album you want to create you will want to a simple method of sorting your photographs so that you can find them when you are ready to begin scrap booking.  The simplest method is chronologically.  This allows you to recapture the event(s) and prepare them to tell the story.

3.    GO – What Do I Need To Begin Scrap booking? Once you have decided they type of scrapbook you want to create it is time to purchase an album.  Your theme may help you decide what type of album you wish to begin your scrap booking adventure. There are endless styles and colors to choose from.  If you theme is a recent vacation to the Caribbean, there are even island inspired albums with palm tree motifs or you may wish to choose something classic, such as a leather cover album.  In addition, adhesives will be used to mount your photographs to the album pages and pens for writing, or journaling the events on the page.  We recommend “photo safe” products that will preserve your memories for years to come.



What is scrapbooking:

(skrāp'bŏŏk 'ĭng)Definition -  the practice of creating compilations in scrapbook albums, such as keepsakes, pictures, periodical articles, etc.

Scrapbooking is a hobby that combines photos, memorabilia and stories in a scrapbook album. Scrapbooking has been around for years, but has evolved since the 90’s. As we learn more about color photography and the use of chemicals and dyes we are now better able to store them in a manner that they will preserved.

People of all ages have embraced scrapbooking as a creative outlet. New scrap booking techniques, ideas and products are available through a variety of resources.  Scrap booking allows people to chronicle their family traditions, milestones and memories and leave a legacy for generations to come.

Scrapbooking utilizes the knowledge available in the area of photo preservation to ensure that photo’s are not just in a scrapbook, but that they are in a scrapbook that will help protect them from deterioration. For this reason, future generations may be spared the yellowed, faded color photos of our childhood. The truth is that color photographs are not permanent, however, the methods that we use to store color photographs can lengthen and improve their preservation.

The future of scrapbooking will undoubtedly bring many "electronic" scrap bookers into the field of scrapbooking. The hardware to take digital photographs, the ability to transfer photos to disk and the software to manipulate photographs has amazing capabilities.

Regardless of the medium, scrapbooking allows the simple pleasure of one to become a family historian. It teaches and shares a moment of time, for a lifetime.
