What is scrapbooking:
(skrāp'bŏŏk 'ĭng)Definition - the
practice of creating compilations in scrapbook albums, such as keepsakes,
pictures, periodical articles, etc.
Scrapbooking
is a hobby that combines photos, memorabilia and stories in a scrapbook album.
Scrapbooking has been around for years, but has evolved since the 90’s. As we
learn more about color photography and the use of chemicals and dyes we are now
better able to store them in a manner that they will preserved.
People
of all ages have embraced scrapbooking as a creative outlet. New scrap booking
techniques, ideas and products are available through a variety of
resources. Scrap booking allows people
to chronicle their family traditions, milestones and memories and leave a
legacy for generations to come.
Scrapbooking
utilizes the knowledge available in the area of photo preservation to ensure
that photo’s are not just in a scrapbook, but that they are in a scrapbook that
will help protect them from deterioration. For this reason, future generations
may be spared the yellowed, faded color photos of our childhood. The truth is
that color photographs are not permanent, however, the methods that we use to
store color photographs can lengthen and improve their preservation.
The
future of scrapbooking will undoubtedly bring many "electronic" scrap
bookers into the field of scrapbooking. The hardware to take digital
photographs, the ability to transfer photos to disk and the software to
manipulate photographs has amazing capabilities.
Regardless of the medium, scrapbooking allows the simple pleasure of one to become a family historian. It teaches and shares a moment of time, for a lifetime.
